Bargain Hunter: Holiday Grocery Specials

I am thrilled about this week's extra low priced sale items at Fresh & Easy. First of all, frozen appetizers 50% off! You can bet I'm going to be stocking up on those! I highly recommend the mini frozen pizzas and the cranberry and cream cheese wontons. Both are delicious and cook up easily in the toaster oven so work well for a light lunch. And at such a low price, I may just have to sample a couple of new appetizers that I haven't tried yet.

Also, holiday seasons are a good time to stock up on specialty items that might normally be more expensive. At Christmas and Thanksgiving, it's turkeys, cranberries, pumpking filling and endless baking items we have to look forward too. Around Valentine's day you can often find amazing deals on expensive steaks such as fillet mignon, strawberries, and champagne. For Easter, this is the time to splurge on extra low prices of lamb and ham. This week at Fresh and Easy you can get Smoked Ham Shanks for only 77 cents a pound! I plan to buy one or two, portion them out and freeze them to make them last.

Here are a few ideas from MyRecipes.com for how what to do with all this lovely smoked ham:
