I got a couple of leads on some great Free/Low Cost weekly events coming up this summer for those of you looking to get out on the town and not spend a lot of money. Luckily, we live in a city that's buzzing with just such opportunities. Here are a couple worth mentioning that sound like fun and I do plan to check them out:
1. Looking for something to do on a hot summer night? Drive thru theaters may be a thing of the past, but if you're still craving an open air movie watching experience you'll never guess who's hosting free screenings... The Hollywood Forever Cemetery every Saturday night throughout the summer! For details on screenings check out: www.cinespia.org. Admission is free although a donation of $10 is suggested. You can bring your own picnic dinner and drinks but alcohol is not permitted. Also, bring a picnic blanket or towel to sit on. They discourage tall chairs as a courtesy to other guests. Gates open at 7:00 p.m. and movie starts at 8:00 p.m. Thanks Camille for the tip!
2. Need a little music in your life? Check out the Sherman Oaks Galleria Live! 2009. May 30 through Sept 5, The Galleria plays host to 40 nights of musical entertainment including Friday and Saturday night live bands (R&B, Funk, Jazz, Pop, Country, Latin, Blues, Flamenco Motown, Top 40, Rock & Roll) and Wednesday Dance Nights (Salsa & Swing). There is no cost for admission. Bands perform in the open air food court.

Ben and I used to go to the Hollywood Forever screenings regularly when we lived in the city. Wonderful atmosphere-but it's definitely not free-you have to pay 10 bucks to get in. Don't get me wrong, it's totally worth it. Now we go to Thurs night concerts series at Santa Monica Pier which is free. http://www.twilightdance.org/
It's 10 bucks to park in their lot, and that's if you can't find street parking, which could be impossible.
